Dr. Levin himself has had Lyme disease twice but successfully treated it early on both occasions. This makes three important points: - Early treatment is short and effective.
- Unlike most other infections, long-term immunity is not guaranteed after recovery or immunization.
- It is impossible (outside of a very few research facilities) to differentiate a new infection from a recurrence of an old one that has not been treated long enough.
